Meet our Chair, a member of the association since 2011, a Rutland County Councillor with special responsibility for Highways, Transport, Culture and Leisure. An ex-teacher and now a book seller, Lucy uses her management skills with customary humour and good cheer! During the recent pandemic, Lucy coordinated her local community to produce nearly 2,000 bandannas for NHS staff.
"It is such an honour to chair this association: great members and a dynamic MP who places the needs of the constituency at the heart of all she does."
Life.. Lucy has always been a very hands on sort of a person; sleeves rolled up and ready to get stuck in. May Balls and plays, managing the England Women's Touch Rugby team, running her local town 'Feast Day' to name just a few. Her years teaching enabled her to instill in many children a love for the performing arts, a thirst to engage with sport and above all to appreciate the value of a rich and varied extra curricular life as it is often these aspects that make a life fully lived, not merely observed from the sidelines, being done to rather than doing.
Guilty pleasures.. All things second hand and vintage, whether books, clothes or nick knacks - Lucy loves them all and was thrilled when "to up-cycle" became fashionable!
Working with our politicians.. Lucy is proud of our politicians; it is a tough job: a certainty some people will be angered, critical scrutiny guaranteed with the sword of Damocles in budget form hanging, ever present.
We are the grass roots and our voice should never been underestimated. Fostering a close working relationship with our MP is a must. It is our job to equip our MP with the right arguments for the platform of Westminster.
"Conservatism is about common sense prevailing for the good of society. It is the right thing to do: compassion without indulgence, grounded aspiration and pride in hard work."
