Born in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, Ireland, I felt blessed growing up amongst friends and wonderful neighbours. Doors were always open for a cup of tea and a chat, and this is what I love about village life. The pace and community well being naturally evolves. I developed a strong work ethic and have been working in one form or other since I was about 15. Whether it be in telesales, retail, PA roles or on the markets. I feel that the diversity of all these jobs helped me with my resilience and my ability to talk to people.
I studied Law at University, and in 1999 met and married my husband Raj. Soon after we started our own finance company called 'The Financelab' and our main office is in Leicester.
We live in the small village of Illston-on-the-Hill and both our children attend local schools.
This is my second term as a District Councillor, and I currently chair The Performance Scrutiny Panel, as well as being vice-chair of The Planning Committee and involved in the Task Group looking at Strategic Growth. So my plate is pretty full and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I strongly believe that the focus should be on helping out the community in which you live. I therefore had no hesitation in putting my name forward as ‘Billesdon & Tilton Ward Councillor’ in 2019. I enjoy the role I play and feel humbled by the welcome and acceptance I enjoy as being part of a bigger team. Helping out where I can – this matters to me.
