Rutland and Melton Conservatives have selected Alicia Kearns, a Counter Terrorism Expert, as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the General Election on Thursday 12th December.
Alicia has a wealth of experience advising the UK Government and its allies on Counter Terrorism and has led interventions in Iraq and Syria. In a highly competitive field of candidates, she was selected by members of the local association at a packed meeting on Friday evening.
Following her selection Alicia said;
‘It is the privilege of my life to have the opportunity to serve Rutland and Melton. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible on the doorstep, in our vibrant market towns, and in our fantastic villages.
‘My priorities are ending rural disadvantage and securing the funding we deserve, tackling rural crime, protecting rural life and delivering Brexit.
‘Sir Alan Duncan has served Rutland and Melton diligently for many years, and I am honoured to succeed him as the Conservative candidate. I pay tribute to his steadfast support of our communities over the last 27 years, and in particular his securing of funding for two crucial by-passes for our area.
“Only Boris Johnson and the Conservatives will get Brexit done, respect the referendum, and deliver the strong economy we need to fund the public services we all rely on here in Rutland and Melton. If you want to get Brexit done and protect our economy come join my team – our door is open!”
Byron Rhodes, Chairman of the Association, added; ‘We set out to get the best and succeeded. Alicia will be an effective and strong MP for Rutland and Melton. She will stand up for the interests of all its residents and businesses. I urge everyone to vote for her on 12th December.'
The selection took place following the decision of Sir Alan Duncan to stand down from Parliament following over 27 years as the local Member of Parliament for the constituency.
Alicia and her family are looking forward to making Rutland and Melton their home.
